Miss Counsell’s Updates

Update 07/09/20

What do I do if my child is unwell?

You should call the school in the normal way to report your child as being ill.  Do not bring them in to school.  Please do this by 8am.

Should I book a Covid-19 test?

If your child is ill with Covid-19 symptoms, you should get a test for your child.

The symptoms of Covid-19 are:

  • A high temperature
  • A new, continuous cough
  • A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

You can book a test by calling 119 or by clicking on https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/antigen/name

You do not need to book a test for any of your children who do not have symptoms.

Do all my children need to stay off school?

Yes.  All of the children in the house need to stay home and not come to school if one of them has Covid-19 symptoms.

When can my child come back to school?

If a pupil tests negative and if they feel well and no longer have Covid-19 symptoms, they can stop self-isolating and return to school.  Their siblings can return to school as soon as the negative result is given.

If a pupil tests positive, they should continue to self-isolate for at least 10 days from the start of their symptoms. The rest of the family will then need to self-isolate for 14 days from when the child developed Covid-19 symptoms.  If anyone develops symptoms within those 14 days, they must get a test as well.

If you have any questions, please call the school office on 0117 377 3085.

Update 03/09/20

Welcome back everyone!

It was so lovely to see you all today at drop-off and pick-up time.  Families and staff seeing each other again after such a long time was a really special moment for all of the Evergreen Community and it was great to see children, parents and teachers all happy and smiling!

I’d like to say a big thank you for the way you supported us today during the drop-off and pick-up.  It really helps when families arrive at the correct time as it means the flow of people is safe and orderly.  We were really pleased with how sensible the children were in making sure that they followed the social distancing rules and stayed in their family units.  Well done Evergreen Community!!

Class Dojo

For those of you that have not signed up to Class Dojo yet, your children should have log in details for you.  Please contact the office if you do not have these details.  It is important that you join Class Dojo as it will be the way we share information with you in the future.

Water Bottles

Please make sure that you send your children in to school with a water bottle every day.  We are not able to use cups at the moment and children will need to have water throughout the day.  We are able to use the taps to fill up the bottles.

Schools Meals Payment

If you pay for school meals with cash, please put the correct cash in the envelope provided by school and give the envelope to Mr Barratt at the gate.  If you are not sure how much you need to pay, please call Mrs Duale in the office.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions about any of the above information and we look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.

Update 26/08/20

We’re really looking forward to welcoming you all back on Thursday 3rd September. Please can you watch the video below. It will give you all the information you need to come back to school safely, including how to drop-off, enter the classroom, pay for school meals and pick-up at the end of the day.

Update 25/08/20

I hope you have all had a good start to the week. Please find below important information about school day timings for your children.

To maintain social distancing and to keep everybody safe, we will have staggered start and finish times to the school day. Families will be given a drop-off and pick-up time and it is very important that we all follow these timings.

A video will be posted later this week to show you the new one-way entry and exit system for the school.

Drop-off and pick-up times are alphabetical based on family name, as follows:

  • Family name starting with A: drop-off 8:30am, pick-up 2:30pm
  • Family name starting with B, C or D: drop-off 8:35am, pick-up 2:35pm
  • Family name starting with F, G, or H: drop-off 8:40am, pick-up 2:40pm
  • Family name starting with I, J, K or L: drop-off 8:45am, pick-up 2:45pm

  • Family name starting with P, R, S, T, V, W, Y: drop-off 8:55am, pick-up 2:55pm

So, as my name is Miss Counsell I would drop-off at 8:35am and pick-up at 2:35pm.

Please remember to look out for the video which will be posted online in the next couple of days.

We are looking forward to seeing you all again on Thursday 3rd September.

Update 15.07.20

Well…what a year it has been!  Last September seems so long ago.  There has been a lot taking place between now and then and we hope you and your families continue to keep well and safe.

I will be sending you updates and reminders during the summer break on Class Dojo.  If you have not already signed up, please do so by Friday 17th July.  If you need help to sign up, please call the office on 0117 3773085.

The last day of term for children is Friday 17th July.  Please make sure your children continue to carry out their learning at home until (and including) that day.

The first day back is Thursday 3rd September.  If you are planning on taking a holiday during the summer, please make sure you are back in time for your children to start school on the first day in September.  It is very important for their well-being and their education that they start back on the first day with their friends.

We will have lots of health and safety measures in place to keep us all safe in September.  I will confirm more details of these closer to the time (on Class Dojo) but the key things for you to know now are:

The school day will run between 8.30am – 3.00pm.

Staggered drop off and pick up times will be in place and you will be allocated a time to come to school.

We will send you a video in August of the one-way system we will have in place for drop off and pick up times.

We will send you your time slot for drop off and pick up times in August.

There will be no breakfast club at the start of the term.

There will be no after school clubs at the start of the term.

All classrooms will have santising stations.

Children will be eating lunch in their classroom at the start of the term.

Children will be having assemblies in their classroom at the start of term.

Each class will have their own outside play area which will be used only by their class.

We hope that you are all able to enjoy a well-earned rest and break over the summer holidays.  With more shops and services opening up to the public, we will all hopefully have some opportunity to do a few nice things with our friends and family.

From all at Evergreen – have a lovely summer break!

Update 8.7.20

With the end of the school year in sight, I wanted to give you an update on our plans for the Evergreen Community for September.

We have some staffing changes taking place.  We say goodbye to Mr Brownlow, Mrs Hind, Ms Darboe and Mrs Lai who are all moving on to new adventures.  We wish them well and thank them for all their hard work during their time at Evergreen.

We look forward to welcoming two new teachers to our Evergreen Community – Miss Webb and Mr Smith.  In September the class teachers will be:

Reception – Mrs Munro

Year 1 – Miss Webb

Year 2 – Miss Riley

Year 3 – Miss Wheeldon

Year 4 – Mr Smith

Year 5 – Miss Dorse

Year 6 – Mrs Etherington

School officially finishes for the summer holidays at 3pm on Friday 17th July.

The government announced late last week that all children will be welcomed back to school in September.  We are busy working on our plans to make this happen and we look forward to seeing all children back at Evergreen after the summer holidays.

Before the end of this term, I will send you more details of health and safety measures in place for September.  If you have any concerns about your children returning in September, please call the school as soon as possible (and before the 17th July) to discuss this with us.  It is very important that your children return in September and we want to support you to make that happen.

Update 29.6.20

I hope you were all able to enjoy the glorious sunshine we had last week before all the torrential rain of the weekend!

We are pleased to be able to welcome a small number of additional pupils to school from Monday 29th June.  Some of the children in each bubble will attend on Mondays and Tuesdays and the other half will attend on Thursdays and Fridays.  The children will still have their own resources.  It will still be the same adults working with each bubble.

We know that this means that there are still some children who will not have been given the opportunity to come back to school before the summer holidays.  With this in mind, we will be contacting any parents who have not so far been offered a place for their child and we will be inviting those remaining children in to take part in some re-connecting activities with members of the Senior Leadership Team.  These activities will take place during the last two weeks of this term.  We will start to call those parents from Wednesday 1st July and will be able to tell you more about it on the phone.

We know that this is an unusual time for all of us and we know that some parents may be concerned that their children have not yet been able to come back to school.  We are sad about that, too.  Please know that we are working really hard to make sure that all children have access to the same high-quality learning opportunities.  We have been very careful to make sure that the paper based and online learning opportunities are the same materials for pupils who are learning at home and in school.  We also encourage pupils who are learning at home to send in their work for their teacher to see and to make sure they ask any questions about their learning opportunities during their regular phone call with their teacher.

We will also be sending out your child’s annual End of Year Report the week commencing Monday 6th July.  If your child is not currently attending school, the report will be delivered in the post.  Please notify us if you have not received the report by Friday 10th July.

25.6.20 Update on Covid-19 test results

I am pleased to confirm that both pupils tested for Covid-19 earlier this week have received confirmation from the NHS that their test results were negative. Both bubbles will have returned to school by Friday 26th June.

19.6.20 Letter from Miss Counsell

Friday 29th May 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

The government confirmed yesterday that schools can now begin to open to wider groups of pupils from 1st June.

I can confirm that Evergreen will be opening to more pupils from Thursday 4th June. To do this safely and to allow us to have social distancing in place, we will be inviting only small groups of children back at first. This follows the government’s guidance on the phased reopening of schools.

In order to allow us to open safely for pupils and staff, we have put many safety measures in place. These include (but are not limited to) the following:

· Class sizes are limited to 8 or 9 pupils and 1 teacher

· Classes of children will not mix with each other at any point in the day

· Children will have their own table

· Tables will be set 2m apart from each other (and the teacher)

· Children will have their own set of stationary on their table

· One way walking systems will be in place

· Only children and staff will enter the main school building

· Drop off and pick up times will be staggered so that we do not have all children arriving/leaving at the same time

· Children will be given a specific time to arrive between 10.30 and 11.00am.

· Parents will be given a specific time to pick up children between 2.15 and 3.00pm.

On Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd June, the school will be calling the parents of the children who will be coming back first. You will be given one of the following dates for your children to start school:

Thursday 4th June

Monday 8th June

Thursday 11th June

If you do not get a phone call, your child will continue with their learning at home until further notice. For the week starting Monday 1st June, we will continue to send all parents a text with a link to that day’s online work. Please make sure your children carry on with this learning. It is very important.

We know that some parents and children would prefer paper based learning to do at home and we will make this happen for you. We will be getting this ready for you next week and we hope that it will be delivered or posted to you by Monday 8th June. We will be in touch next week to give you more information about how to do that work.

We will also be putting some videos on our wordpress website next week which will show you the changes we have made to the school. We will send you a text with a link when this is done. Please make sure you watch the videos with your children. It is important for them and you to see the changes we have made which will keep them safe.

We hope you are all keeping well and safe.

Yours sincerely,

V Counsell

Principal
